Hello Hunger Games fans! Did you go see the movie today?
If you read the books, you know that they’re addictive. Once I read the first one, I was sooo happy to have a Kindle, because I didn’t have to wait to go to a bookstore in order to get the other two. I must have read these books within 48 hours, and I couldn’t take my mind off of them for weeks! That’s when I realized that I don’t have to move onto the next bestseller, I can recreate the Hunger Games world within my own! How amazing would that be? So I decided to find the best vendors who can help me achieve my goal, and do a styled shoot with the Hunger Games in mind.
I first found Stacie, of Stacie Shea Events, who readily agreed to take on the stylist and planner role. Lucky me – she is a huge Hunger Games fan, so I didn’t have to describe my vision in too many words Saying that Stacie’s been amazing throughout this process would be an understatement…she’s been incredibly creative, determined, and focused. Next I met with Lori of AvaFlora because floral design was very important to me. We decided to go with a yellow palette, and her creations went beyond my expectations. Finding a hair and makeup artist was easy…I’ve worked with Erica Ogawa in the past for one of my bride’s engagement session, and I loved her creativity and dedication. She treated that session as if it was a photo shoot, so I knew I don’t have to look any further when building the Hunger Games team. Then Stacie found the fabulous Erin of Pickles and Pies who created the most delicious food I ever put my mouth on (no, I’m not exaggerating! Give her a call!), Jessica of Jessica Haley Ink who created our menu, invitations, and all the fabulous paper items you see in the images below, and Sweet Lisa’s Exquisite Cakes (based in CT) who magically created our cake and cupcakes. All of the vintage goodies used throughout the shoot have been provided by Stacie’s Vintage Rental Company.
Now finding the models was no easy feat. Our Katniss, Flavia Barbat, is a Romanian beauty (hey, I had to mention that since I’m Romanian too!:) who couldn’t have been more perfect for this role. I was casting for another styled shoot I had a while ago, when I stumbled upon her, and I knew she had to be our Katniss. Finding Peeta was not as easy, but when I’ve seen Randall Harris on Click Model’s website, I knew he’d be THE ONE!
The Monique Lhuillier and Lazaro wedding gowns, one of the hair accessories, and the tuxedo have been gracefully provided by Kleinfeld Bridal, and the shoes and one of the hair pieces have been provided by Gabriella Bridal Salon.
Special thanks to my friend and fellow photographer Caroline of Caroline Frost Photography for helping me out that day!
Lastly, Matt of DMO Films captured all of the energy of the day…you can see the behind the scenes movie he created here: http://vimeo.com/39050184
All images have been shot on medium format and 35 mm film.
Now it’s time for some photos, right?
More photos to come soon!
